Millwrights British Columbia Local 2736 - CONVENTION REPORT by Frank Nolan
As many of you are aware, the struggle to maintain our democratic rights, be able to continue to elect our officers and vote on agreements has been ongoing for seven years now. The International continues to push for restructuring and is relentless in their approach. Last year they took the Provincial Council and all affiliates to court in order to get access to the books so they may put Locals in trusteeship if they do not follow suit. All of these attempts have failed as the judge ruled that McCarron acted in bad faith and dismissed the case. Over the last fifteen years, as a delegate to the B.C. Provincial Council Convention, I have seen resolutions submitted regarding Canadian Autonomy. However, the resolutions that were submitted at this convention were more direct and uncompromising.
