Pentagon Seeks Legislation to Deprive Employees of Rights Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is pressing Congress to pass legislation that would strip the Pentagon's 700,000 employees of the civil rights and union protections they've enjoyed for decades.
If the Pentagon measure passes, it is more than likely that the Bush administration will try to impose its open-shop blueprint on other federal agencies. And what if Rumsfeld tries to eliminate unions in the private sector in the name of national security?
