Caterpillar sues over labor act PEORIA - With only months remaining in its existing contracts with its unions, Caterpillar Inc. wants a state law forbidding the use of strike replacement workers nullified.
In a lawsuit filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Peoria, the earth-moving giant sued six state's attorneys and asked a judge to bar them from enforcing the Employment of Strikebreakers Act.
The 30-year-old act was changed last week when Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed an amendment that prevents companies like Caterpillar from using temporary replacements for strikers.
