Alderman Burke's war chest tops Daley's: "Daley sailed to re-election in February, trouncing three little-known challengers. But he still managed to spend $2,514,476. With money he already had in the bank and $3,851,317 he raised this year, the mayor had $3,773,056.39 left in his fund June 30.
His top contributor was the carpenters union, which donated $62,851, followed by Winnetka venture capitalist Bruce Rauner, who gave $50,000.
But Daley's fund-raising was not enough to overtake Burke, the City Council Finance Committee chairman and longtime rival of the mayor."
