    Demise of softwood deal leads to finger pointing Analysts say Canada's best hope now rests with a NAFTA panel
    It may be impossible to negotiate a quick end to the Canada-U.S. softwood trade war, gloomy industry and government officials said Thursday following the latest collapse in negotiations.

    Reports of a possible agreement this week fizzled on Thursday after the powerful U.S. lumber industry vetoed a tentative deal negotiated by Canadian and U.S. government officials.
