CBC North | WCB details defendants in suit Lawyers for the Workers Compensation Board are painting a picture of negligence in broad strokes, presenting evidence they say implicates all the defendants:
* Strikers who entered mine property at will, setting fires, causing power outages and spray painting anti-scab graffiti underground;
* Royal Oak, who the lawyers say aggravated a volatile situation by firing more than 40 strikers;
* Royal Oak owner Peggy Witte, who wanted to cut down on mine security;
* Pinkerton's, whose security was so lax that anyone who knew where they were going could get in;
* the territorial government, who argued with the federal government about who should pay for extra RCMP, opting to send the riot squad home mid-summer;
* the chief mine inspector who decided not to shut the mine down, even after the ventilation shaft was bombed;
* the Canadian Association of Smelter and Allied Workers who admitted as the strike wore on they were in over their heads; and
* the Canadian Auto Workers who contributed money to defend picketers facing charges, without disciplining them for their actions.
