Minority hiring on track in school construction, but not all goals met yet By PHIL FAIRBANKS, Buffalo News
Buffalo's $1 billion school construction program has met all but one of its overall minority hiring goals in the first few months of work.

The first report on minority hiring for the 10-year school project shows about 23.8 percent of the employees are minority, compared with a goal of 23 percent.

In contrast, the project is falling short of its 7 percent hiring goal for women. The report found 5.8 percent of the workers hired are female.

The report also looked at minority-owned and women-owned contractors participating in the project and found both goals are being met.

Minority contractors are currently doing 25.9 percent of the work, just above the 25 percent goal, and female-owned businesses are doing about 7 percent of the work, well above the 5 percent goal.
