Ottawa seeks trade sanctions against U.S. Globe and Mail Update
Ottawa is asking for the green light to retaliate against the United States for failing to repeal a U.S. law that lets domestic companies keep the proceeds from anti-dumping duties.

In announcing a request for “retaliatory authorization” to the World Trade Organization along with seven other members, Ottawa is moving to prevent the $1.7-billion (U.S.) in softwood duties collected to be paid out to U.S. producers.

Softwood solution not in 'murky' map By Paul Luke, The Province
B.C. will never use its lumber quota to bribe other regions into swallowing a softwood deal with the U.S., de Jong said yesterday in Vancouver.

"If anyone has any ideas that B.C. is going to try and purchase support elsewhere in this country for a deal with the Americans by giving British Columbia quota to others elsewhere in the country, they're wrong," de Jong told the annual meeting of the Truck Loggers Association.
