Ottawa seeks trade sanctions against U.S. Globe and Mail Update
Ottawa is asking for the green light to retaliate against the United States for failing to repeal a U.S. law that lets domestic companies keep the proceeds from anti-dumping duties.
In announcing a request for “retaliatory authorization” to the World Trade Organization along with seven other members, Ottawa is moving to prevent the $1.7-billion (U.S.) in softwood duties collected to be paid out to U.S. producers.

B.C. will never use its lumber quota to bribe other regions into swallowing a softwood deal with the U.S., de Jong said yesterday in Vancouver.
