WTO panel rules US duties on Canada lumber justified By David Ljunggren, Reuters
The interim ruling was the latest in a string of mixed WTO decisions on U.S. softwood lumber duties against Canada. Washington says Canadian lumber producers are unfairly subsidized -- a charge Ottawa denies.
'It is a pro-U.S. ruling,' the official told Reuters, adding that the WTO had decided in Canada's favor on what he called a key point. The final ruling is due to be issued some time later this year.
In Washington, a U.S. official confirmed reports of a U.S. victory. 'It's a big win for the United States and we are pleased that the panel ruled that we enforced our trade laws in a WTO-consistent manner,' the official told Reuters.
