Clues sought as workers dismantle collapsed garage By JOHN CURRAN and GISELLE SOTELO
ATLANTIC CITY -- In the shadow of the Tropicana Casino and Resort's crumpled parking garage, the noise never stops -- the jackhammers and chainsaws, the rivet-driving and the hammering.
Giant excavators lift debris, dump trucks move the pieces out and flatbed trucks haul in timber used to fortify giant scaffolds.
The scaffolds and a construction bridge crisscross the collapsed end of the 10-story structure, which folded like a house of cards during a concrete pour Oct. 30. The tragedy resulted in the deaths of four construction workers, including 21-year-old Scottie Pietrosante of Milmay.
The work continues around the clock. Members of Pietrosante's family hope the demolition work can bring some comfort to what has been a difficult five months.
'The whole thing ought to come down as far as I'm concerned,' said Scottie's grandfather John Pietrosante, 64. Relatives are convinced that 'shoddy work' caused the collapse, said Pietrosante.
