Union labor tries to stem decline By DAVID SCHEPP, THE JOURNAL NEWS
Jobs that used to be well-paying union jobs have been replaced by- and-large with lower-wage service jobs, where unions traditionally haven't had a strong foothold.
As corporations continue their exodus from the industrialized North to the right-to-work states of the South, Asia and elsewhere, the number of unionized workers has fallen to 15.8 million out of a total of 121.8 million U.S. workers last year, according to government data.
The labor movement's effort to reverse shrinking membership through beefed-up resources and efforts to organize workers has met with mixed results.
