Unions Protest Hiring Practices for Power Plant in Effingham County, Ga. By Charles Cochran, Savannah Morning News
'These buzzards -- they're hiring no local people,' said Jack M. Love Jr., representing Plumbers, Pipefitters, Steamfitters, HVAC Local No. 188.
'To get hired on that job, you have to know somebody who works for Yates and Sons,' said Mike Barthelmess, a Plumbers and Pipefitters union rep.
Meddy Settles, representing Carpenters and Millwrights Local No. 256, chimed in: 'Whether it's union or non-union, every construction worker should have the opportunity to make a living in his hometown.'
Settles said a survey of car tags in the construction site parking lot showed that more than 80 percent were out-of-state.------------------------------------------- posted 6:43 AM :: reference link ::
