FROM JAIL TO JOBS By Jaquetta White, Times-Picayune
Through its Corrections Organized for Re-entry, or CORe program, the Department of Corrections has agreements with 64 companies, including Northrop Grumman's Avondale shipyard and Six Flags of Louisiana, to hire former inmates.

'We're looking for skilled workers, no matter if they're Martians or former inmates or whatever,' said Sterling Dolese, training manager at Avondale. Dolese said the company has placed former inmates in its apprenticeship and on-the-job training programs for welders and pipe fitters. Sometimes, he said, recent parolees are the best-skilled people for the jobs.

'They're receiving training while incarcerated, so they can't miss a day of training," he said.
