Short-lived picket sways government CBC Saskatchewan
REGINA - It took only 20 minutes outside the provincial legislature on Thursday morning to get SaskPower workers what they have wanted for the past six weeks. The government is bringing in an out-of-province mediator to help with negotiations between the union and management.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) represents 1,300 workers at the power company. They have been in a legal strike position since Monday morning, but the union spokesperson says he couldn't get a mediator.
Workers set up a picket line outside each door of the legislature early Thursday morning. Every government MLA would have had to cross that line in order to vote in favour of the budget and avoid another election.
