Bridge ironworker dies in fall By Carla Bova, Marin Independent-Journal, CA
A 36-year-old ironworker on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge died yesterday after a piece of steel crashed through a platform on which he was standing, sending him plunging at least 25 feet into the bay below.
At least one co-worker dove into the chilly water in an attempt to rescue Miguel Rodriguez Jr. of Concord, authorities said.
Rodriguez was doing seismic retrofit work under the lower deck of the bridge on the Marin side when the incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m.
Work on the bridge has been suspended for two days.------------------------------------------- posted 8:08 AM :: reference link ::
