ROOF ABOUT TO CAVE IN ON 'MOB-UNION SCAMMERS' By PHILIP MESSING, New York Post
A gang of allegedly corrupt contractors, city union bigs and their Mafioso bosses will be indicted in a major kickback scheme that allowed the builders to hire cheap nonunion labor, The Post has learned.
Nine people — including top officials with a local chapter of the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers, as well as a reputed Genovese capo — have been targeted by Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau's office after a two-year probe, two sources said yesterday.
The scheme involved "numerous roofing contractors who paid off [dirty union officials] to use nonunion labor," one source said.------------------------------------------- posted 8:28 AM :: reference link ::
