As OSHA cracks down on construction sites, 4 worker deaths recorded in S. Florida By Niala Boodhoo, South Florida Sun-Sentinel
The Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration three weeks ago began a statewide concentrated effort to inspect construction sites and educate its employees, because Florida has traditionally been among the worst in the country for worker deaths.
On Wednesday morning, a Miami man was killed and another critically injured when a wall freshly filled with concrete collapsed at a site in Kendall.
That brought the total number of Florida worker deaths so far this year to 37, said local OSHA director Luis Santiago. That number also includes two men who were killed July 22 while working on a condominium development in Hobe Sound. Last week, a Hollywood construction worker was killed when he fell through an uncovered elevator shaft.
