Bush, Kerry storm Portland By James Sinks, Bend Bulletin, OR
Based solely on Bush's exit to thunderous cheers and chants of 'four more years,' it would be easy to assume he will cruise to victory in Oregon in November.
But just across the street from the high school, on the other side of black-clad police in riot gear, opinions of Bush and his agenda were decidedly less favorable in a neighborhood of dilapidated rowhouses.
Matrice Akil, whose husband is headed to Iraq to fight a war she thinks is wrong, said the president is promoting tax cuts for wealthy people but the working class is suffering.
She noted the irony of the overflow parking along the curbs, the shiny luxury cars and sport-utility vehicles with Bush campaign stickers in the windows. The cars nobody in her neighborhood could afford.------------------------------------------- posted 8:09 AM :: reference link ::
