National Labor Relations Board Judge Slaps Sodexho for Violation of Federal Labor Law Latest in Slew of Sanctions Against Service Outsourcing Giant SEIU, Business Wire
"Once again, Sodexho has broken the law while trying to discourage workers who want the right to organize,' said Mel Vassar, a food service worker at PSU who has been trying to unite his colleagues. For more than a year, the PSU workers have been fighting for a voice at work with UNITE HERE Local 471.
Sodexho responded with a vicious anti-union campaign. Judge Arthur Amchan recommended an order commanding Sodexho to 'cease and desist from threatening employees with 'house arrest' for engaging in union activities' and 'threatening employees with a loss of benefits if they select the Union as their collective bargaining representative.'
Sodexho has a record of harassing, intimidating and firing workers who try to organize. In April 2003, more than 200 Sodexho workers at an industrial laundry in Phoenix, Arizona tried to unite to improve low wages and dangerous working conditions. Sodexho illegally fired three of them, disciplined two others and committed 'pervasive' illegal actions as found by another NLRB judge.------------------------------------------- posted 7:02 AM :: reference link ::
