Forde Sentencing Delayed local157.com
August 11, 2004: Delegate Body Meeting – In addressing the delegate body Mike Forde said the judge overseeing his legal case has delayed sentencing until September 8, 2004.
A Manhattan jury convicted EST Michael Forde and local 608-business agent Thomas Devereaux of accepting $10,000 in cash as part of a $50,000 promised bribe on April 27.
Forde and Devereaux were due to be sentenced by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Atlas on June 30, and face anywhere from probation to seven years behind bars.
Forde told the delegates that his defense lawyers filed a motion to set aside the jury verdict based on the fact that “no witness admitted actually passing cash to himself or Devereaux” at the trial.
Forde maintains "he did nothing wrong" and said, the judge obviously realizes there are issues here in the government's case against him, and he remains “cautiously optimistic” the judge will rule to set aside the verdict.
Judge Atlas set a tentative sentencing date of September 8.
Forde and Devereaux will remain in office until sentencing.------------------------------------------- posted 6:15 AM :: reference link ::
