A Million Workers Prepare to March...But the AFL-CIO Says "Hell No We Won't Go!" ufcw.net Members for Democracy
The March was conceived by San Francisco-based Local 10 of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and it's opposition to the US government's war against Iraq. Since then, the objectives of the March have grown and encompass a more far more comprehensive array of social, political and economic imperatives and it has received overwhelming support from a diverse range of community, labour and social justice groups as well as from individual citizens. Driven by frustration with mainstream institutions that profess to be for the people but which don't do much for them (like, for instance the Democratic Party), the March quickly evolved into a broad-based grassroots coalition with an expansive social justice agenda.

The Million Workers' demands include a living wage, universal health care, decent pensions, democratization of the media, protection of civil liberties and the repeal of free trade agreements.
