I-280 bridge completion pushed back to early '07 By DAVID PATCH, Toledo Blade
Fru-Con expected to finish the bridge by August, 2005, before the Feb. 16 accident that killed four construction workers and injured four others and destroyed one of the twin, 900-ton horizontal cranes used to hoist and hold pre-cast concrete bridge sections in place during assembly.
An OSHA report released on July 30 faulted Fru-Con for not securing the crane's legs in accordance with its Italian manufacturer's specifications. Fru-Con has appealed the finding and the $280,000 fine OSHA proposed for what it considered 'willful' and 'egregious' violations of workplace safety.
