    Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
    A total of 5,559 workers died on the job in the United States in 2003, according to the National Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries report released Sept. 22 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That number compares with 5,534 work fatalities reported for 2002.
