Carpenters union execs are indicted over discounting BY DAVID ASHENFELTER, Detroit Free Press
The head of the Michigan carpenters union and its former president were indicted by a federal grand jury in Detroit on Monday for allegedly using their union positions to win 'extraordinary' discounts on the construction of a home in Grosse Pointe Park.
The indictment said Ralph Mabry, 59, executive secretary-treasurer of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters, and Anthony Michael, 62, former executive director and president of the union, obtained $120,000 worth of discounts from several companies for the construction of Mabry's home in 1998-1999.
