Worker is killed in bridge project led by Fru-Con By JOE MAHR and DAVID PATCH, Toledo Blade, OH
The company building the I-280 bridge over the Maumee River in Toledo suffered another workplace fatality yesterday when part of a bridge pier collapsed at a project in North Dakota, killing one and injuring three.
The accident at the Fru-Con Construction company's Four Bears Bridge project at New Town in west-central North Dakota occurred less than 10 months after four Toledo ironworkers died and four other workers were injured when a truss crane collapsed at Fru-Con's I-280 Maumee River Crossing project.
At the Four Bears project, investigators still were trying to determine yesterday what caused the collapse of reinforcing steel on a pier of the partially completed, mile-long bridge at about 11 a.m. eastern time.------------------------------------------- posted 7:17 AM :: reference link ::
