Ford plant goes out with a bang BY AMANDA GERUT, Newark Star Ledger, NJ
In the fall of 1965, Ron Rivera paused near the Outerbridge Crossing to let a hitchhiker into his Chevy. The hitchhiker told Rivera the Ford plant in Edison needed auto workers.
The hitchhiker didn't get hired, but Rivera, now 63, spent the next 39 years at the plant, building fixtures and tools for cars on the assembly line. He never bought another Chevy.
Yesterday, he watched from his union hall across Route 1 as demolishers imploded one of the last buildings to make way for a retail and entertainment development on the 102-acre site.------------------------------------------- posted 5:06 PM :: reference link ::
