Couple's dream home becomes a million-dollar nightmare By E.B. FURGURSON III, Annapolis Capital, MD
An engineer hired by the Davises discovered missing and misplaced beams, interior walls not stacked atop one another and inadequate support columns in the basement.
'All those things were causing the house to twist and collapse on itself,' said the Davises' attorney, Ed Hartman. 'This was not just a case of sloppy carpenters.'
Then there was the mold. Apparently some of the house's drywall was installed, painted and sealed before the exterior was completely weatherproofed, Mr. Hartman said. The resulting leaks led to mold, making Mrs. Davis and her twin children ill.
