WCB costs questioned in Giant mine case CBC North
YELLOWKNIFE - For 10 years, the N.W.T. Workers' Compensation Board has publicly refused to answer questions about the money it spent on its lawsuit over the deaths at Giant mine in 1992.
Yellowknife's Giant mine was the site of a deadly bombing in 1992But now, the questions are coming fast and furious.
Lawyers are describing some bills paid by the WCB in the suit as 'astounding', 'shocking', and 'far beyond anything that can be rationally justified.'
The board won the case, but for the first time, the $10-million cost is being challenged.
The defendants are casting doubt on how well the WCB controlled costs."
