Tyson officials have said one reason a higher number of injuries was reported at the Wallula plant is because of the company's attention to and reporting of even minor injuries.
But Schlosser contended modern workers are treated similarly to those in Upton Sinclair's 1906 ``The Jungle' about the meat-packing industry.
"It's incredible to me that any argument has to be made that some of the poorest workers - members of this society - should be protected from losing arms, legs, fingers...,' he said.
