Census shows state of diversity in Nevada’s work force - Reno Gazette Journal
About a third of the 2,000 carpenters, journeymen carpenters and apprentices at Reno?s Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters Local Union 971 are Hispanic, said Steve Muchicko, district representative. As union carpenters, they earn about $24 an hour and also get medical and vacation benefits, Muchicko said.
The growth in Hispanic carpenters has been so great that about 18 months ago the union began offering a special class for native Spanish speakers, he said. It teaches safety and basic language skills for the carpentry and construction trades, Muchicko said.------------------------------------------- posted 12:27 PM :: reference link ::
