Panel OKs bridge safety audit - By Jill Tucker and Josh Richman, Tri-Valley Herald, CA
The project has a nearly perfect safety record, with fewer than 10 workers requiring anything more than first aid out of a million man-hours worked each year.
While Caltrans, Cal-OSHA and contractor KFM a Joint Venture have all vouched for the safety of workers on the new span, more than 20 current and former workers have alleged management gave cash bonuses to crews posting clean safety records.
Some workers, with workers' compensation documentation and medical records in hand, say they were injured on the job but those injuries don't appear on KFM's records.
