Bankrupt union selling hall - AP, Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, IN
Less than six years after building a new union hall, bankrupt Local 662 of the United Auto Workers is being forced to sell it in the latest sign of how badly Anderson’s auto industry fortunes have sunk.
The 14,400-square-foot union hall on Anderson’s east side was built in late 2000 for about $1 million, said Rick Zachary, president of Local 662.
Re/Max Real Estate listed the building for $750,000 last week.
“We don’t have any money,” Zachary said. The membership has fallen from about 3,300 when he became president in 2001 to fewer than 700 today.
