B.C. wage deal aims to ensure Olympic peace - PETER KENNEDY, Globe and Mail
VANCOUVER - British Columbia's buoyant construction sector has struck a tentative wage deal with about 35,000 unionized building-trades workers that would guarantee labour stability until after the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The agreement between the Construction Labour Relations Association and the Building Trade Unions covers workers in trades such as pipe fitting, roofing and electrical wiring until April 30, 2010.
Its provisions include wages, benefits, holidays, hours of work, pensions, safety, travel and other conditions.
If the deal is ratified in the next eight weeks, it will replace an agreement that expired at the end of April, 2004.
