    Union training centers stress the need for all workers to be careful with tools and equipment because accidents can cost lives or debilitating injuries -- and a lot of money, an ever-more-important consideration in the competitive world of construction.

    St. Louis labor and construction leaders constantly repeat the mantra that the only way the area can be competitive while remaining strongly union is if its workers have excellent safety and productivity records.
