Too hot for some people to work - BY LINDA BORG, Providence Journal, RI
The extreme heat has also taken its toll on several of the big construction projects downtown. Construction crews working on the GTECH headquarters started an hour early, at 6 a.m., according to Wes Cotter, a spokesman for Gilbane Building Co.
'Some people are planning on quitting early,' Cotter said. 'We're leaving it up to the subcontractors. We're also buying lots of Gatorade for all of our workers.'
Gilbane is also the lead contractor on the Waterplace condominiums and the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
'When the temperature hits 94 degrees, the exterior trades are taken off for the day or they're brought inside,' said Ralph Izzi, spokesman for the Procaccianti Group, which is doing the Westin development and the conversion of the Holiday Inn.------------------------------------------- posted 6:54 AM :: reference link ::
