IBEW to Keep Headquarters - Reported By: Bill Liss, WXIA-TV, GA
The headquarters of Atlanta's electrical union has been a familiar site along Interstate 75 for almost 40 years. But when the wrecking ball was within sight, it brought a passionate response.

"This has always been our home," said IBEW business manager Gene O'Kelley.
And with that, Local 613 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers turned down a $4.5 million offer to sell its familiar 40-year-old headquarters building opposite Turner Field to a developer eager to build a high-rise condo.

O'Kelley took the offer to the 3,200 members of the local.

Heart-warming story. The sight of that wrecking ball must have stirred up very good memories of the 40 years at the headquarters. In another 40 years, tourists will come gawking at this ancient building.
