The headquarters of Atlanta's electrical union has been a familiar site along Interstate 75 for almost 40 years. But when the wrecking ball was within sight, it brought a passionate response.
"This has always been our home," said IBEW business manager Gene O'Kelley.
And with that, Local 613 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers turned down a $4.5 million offer to sell its familiar 40-year-old headquarters building opposite Turner Field to a developer eager to build a high-rise condo.
