Farm workers need labour law - Calgary Herald, Canada
It is truly gratifying to see politicians extend this kind of compassion to the Chandler family but, however touching these individual gestures may be, they do not address the larger issue -- the need to bring farm workers under the protection of the provincial Labour Code. Alberta remains one of only two provinces -- Nova Scotia is the other -- still excluding farm workers, meaning they are ineligible for Worker's Compensation when they get hurt and they are not covered by the most basic employment standards all other workers in Alberta take for granted.
