UAW gets dissidents' opinion: Dozens of UAW Concern members are in Chicago, gearing up for a protest outside the AFL-CIO union's executive board meeting Tuesday, which Gettelfinger and most of the Democratic Party's 2004 presidential candidates are expected to attend.

Their big grievance is over how top UAW officials are elected. Instead of direct election by all members, union officers are elected by delegates to the UAW's constitutional conventions.

Gephardt, Other Presidential Candidates Woo Labor (Update2): "The debate between Gephardt and the other eight Democratic candidates for president will be the highlight of this week's AFL- CIO Presidential Forum. Behind the scenes, the contenders are meeting one-on-one with union leaders, lobbying for their backing and the organizational and financial help that goes with it."
