Ice Palace behind schedule, but crews determined By Tony Kennedy, Star Tribune
About 185 union construction workers are striving to complete a 27,000-block Ice Palace by Jan. 20, for the Winter Carnival. Mayor Randy Kelly, who visited Lake Phalen Tuesday, considers the Ice Palace a crucial image-building opportunity for his city. The first ice castle in St. Paul since 1992 will be a visual centerpiece for this year's National Hockey League All-Star Game on Feb. 8 at Xcel Energy Center.
Although the largely volunteer project is 20 percent behind schedule, Boerboon said crews are sticking to blueprints that call for five towers, nine ice thrones and a courtyard fenced in by a 9-foot wall of ice and majestic wooden gate.------------------------------------------- posted 3:02 PM :: reference link ::
