Canada wins WTO ruling in dispute over heavy U.S. softwood lumber duties STEVE MERTL, CP
VANCOUVER - Canada is claiming another victory in its long trade war with the United States over softwood lumber.
The World Trade Organization ruled Monday that the U.S. International Trade Commission didn't follow international trade rules when it decided that Canadian softwood lumber exports threatened to injure the U.S. industry. International Trade Minister Jim Peterson hailed the ruling as 'a major victory for Canada.
'The WTO panel's message is clear: the countervailing and anti-dumping duties imposed by the U.S. on Canadian softwood lumber exports are baseless,' he said in a news release.------------------------------------------- posted 7:49 PM :: reference link ::
