New bilingual safety website aims to make workplace safer for Hispanic workers eMedia Wire PRESS RELEASE
According to the bureau of labor statistics, fatalities among Hispanic workers are 10% greater than for all workers. There were 840 fatalities in 2002 for Hispanic workers, or 44 per every million workers. Compared to the average death rate for all US workers, of 40 per million workers. In North Carolina, for example, while deaths decreased by 10% from 2000 to 2002, Hispanic worker deaths increased by 10%. In some states where Spanish materials were distributed to workers, the number of worker deaths has decreased. Communication is the barrier when it comes to Hispanic workers’ safety.
