'Being a new worker can be a painful experience'

Alberta Workplace Injury Statistics
- Every three minutes, a worker is injured on an Alberta worksite. In 2003, there were almost 156,000 work-related injuries. Of these, more than 39,000 were serious enough for the worker to miss work beyond the day of the accident.
- Over the past five years (1998 to 2003) more than 729,283 Albertans experienced a work-related injury, which equates to the population of Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan.
- Over the past five years (1998 to 2003) more than 181,989 young workers, under the age of 25, experienced a work-related injury. That equates to the populations of Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Lloydminster and Medicine Hat.
- Of the 127 workplace fatalities administered by the WCB in 2003, eight were workers under age 25.
