Trumping 'The Donald' With the Benefits of a Real Apprenticeship PRNewswire
Bright and ambitious young people don't need Donald Trump for a great apprenticeship. Just ask the 48,000 men and women who are apprentices with the National Electrical Contractors Association and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (NECA-IBEW). Each is shaping a promising future and high-paying career as a skilled electrical or IT professional.
We're failing our obligation to educate the young By DAVID CRANE, Toronto Star
Within our school system, other changes are needed — in particular, to create opportunities for young people who want to pursue skilled trades. To a large extent, our school system ignores their needs or potential.
Today, young people who are sparked by working with tools and machines, and solving mechanical problems, are largely ignored. Schools don't have the funds or teachers to offer the kinds of technical opportunities for young people who could be attracted to a skilled trade through apprenticeship or college. Nor are matters helped by the fact that too many parents believe that their children must strive for a university degree and that anything less represents failure.------------------------------------------- posted 7:03 PM :: reference link ::
