Fired worker stands ground By SUSAN OLP, Billings Gazette, MT
In the eye of the hurricane that is the city employees strike stands Julie Fraley, a part-time member of the maintenance staff at Parmly Billings Library.
Fraley is one of two probationary workers fired by the city for refusing to cross picket lines and go to work. Whether a third probationary employee quit or was fired is disputed by the city and the union.
Eleven seasonal workers also were fired, but their employment would have ended in the next week or two, before the start of school.
Employees hired by the city remain on probation for their first year on the job. They don't become members of the Teamsters union until those 12 months are up.
