House committee plans hearing on Big Dig leaks AP
The Big Dig, the largest highway project in U.S. history, has been mired in new controversy recently, due to the revelation of hundreds of small leaks in the tunnel that have gone unreported for years.
Bechtel/Parsons Brinckerhoff, the private consortium managing the project, has said that leaks are to be expected anytime construction occurs under the water table. Project managers say the leaks will cease once the project is completely finished, probably sometime later next year, and the tunnels are sealed.
Angry public officials, however, have demanded answers for why this engineering marvel, which buried Interstate 93 underneath downtown Boston, seems to have some major flaws.------------------------------------------- posted 7:42 PM :: reference link ::
