Skagit River dams - A chronology SKAGIT VALLEY HERALD.com
Spanning 50 years, the hydroelectric project of the Skagit River cost City Light $250 million. When the final dam was completed in 1961, the river produced enough electricity to allow the power company to close a coal-fired plant on Lake Union in Seattle. The Skagit dams also bolstered support for hydroelectric projects elsewhere in the state.
