Arizona may be short on construction workers By Yvette Armendariz, The Arizona Republic
Tom Quine, coordinator for the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters' training center in Phoenix, said his center is an exception: Its apprenticeship enrollment has risen to 400 from 300 a year ago.
'It's market-driven. Right now, there's a lot of work, and we can take in more people,' he said.
But he thinks the biggest problem in attracting new workers is changing a mind-set.
'Thirty years ago, we got into it because there was a lot of work, pay was good and we wanted to make a career of this,' Quine said. 'Today, they are looking for a job.'------------------------------------------- posted 1:05 PM :: reference link ::
