Unions target ESPN bidding By JACKIE MAJERUS, Bristol Press, CT
Representatives of two regional unions said Thursday they had tried unsuccessfully to 'build a relationship' with the Walt Disney Co., ESPN's corporate parent, in an effort to influence the bid requirements. 'We made a huge attempt to build a relationship,' said Bruce Lydem, a representative of the Regional Council of Carpenters. 'Not once did they return the phone call.'
Jeff Merrow, business manager for Laborers Local Union 611, said that when ESPN put out a request for proposals on the $15 million new building, it didn't include worker protections or company code of conduct that Disney had agreed to in the past.
