Working class should remember Labor Day - Sun-News of the Northland, MO
The American worker is blessed because of labor unions, which helped give the nation a 40-hour-work week and families the time to pursue other interests such as the arts or recreation.
Because of child labor laws advocated by unions, American children attend school rather than work for pennies a day in sweatshops.
The rich force of labor adds to the high standard of living. It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pay tribute on Labor Day to the creator of much of the nation's strength, freedom and leadership - the American worker.
Without the everyday worker, this country would grind to a halt. Working men and women keep the wheels of industry rolling, often with little appreciation. But on one day out of the year, the nation pauses to render them the appreciation they deserve.
