Buried alive - By Richard Charan, Trinidad & Tobago Express
In December 2001, contract worker Mahase Pooran was buried up to the neck in cement while cleaning a kiln. It took firemen nine hours to get him out. He survived.
But in June 2004, TCL worker Kelvin Callender was killed while working within a kiln at the company, an incident that triggered protests by workers represented by the Oilfields Workers Trade Union. The OWTU demanded the immediate implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), which is still to be enforced.------------------------------------------- posted 5:01 AM :: reference link ::
